Straw blown self-portraits

Today for art we drew our faces and blew the paint to make it look like a wacky hair style. This was a way of expressing our selves as well as creating our self-portraits differently. We enjoyed using straws to blow the paint around the paper!!

Buddy Reading within our class

This week we have been trying out buddy reading with our friends in our class. We have enjoyed reading to our friends. Now we can't wait to do some buddy reading with our buddy class!!

Sharing and Celebrating our Learning: Writing

Today the students in Studio 2 wrote descriptions about the beach from the movie Moana. We focused on adding in 'Wonderful words' (adjectives), as well as using capital letters and full stops. The students created fabulous pieces of writing! When we were finished we shared our writing with the rest of the class.

Meet the parent evening

It was great to see so many of our parents there yesterday evening! It was a great opportunity to introduce ourselves to our students parents!

Using technology in the classroom - Skype

This morning Elephants had the opportunity to Skype and talk to a group of Year 2 students from another school in New Zealand. The students were excited to introduce themselves and talk about themselves to another group of students. This is a great way for the students to connect and learn from other students their own age. We are excited to share our learning with them in the future.

Moana Trip

As part of our learning on 'Our Place' and linking with our letter of the week 'm' we were lucky enough to go to watch the movie Moana. This is about a young pasifika girl who goes on a journey to rescue her island. We had so much fun singing and dancing along to all the songs!

Teddy Bears Picnic

Our letter this week has been 't'. We decided to have a teddy's bears picnic to go with our letter of the week. The students brought their teddy bears and walked them in a circle showing them off to Studio 1. We had so much fun waving to everyone as well as dancing along to a range of songs, for example the chicken song. It was great to see our families joining in and everyone having fun!

We also learnt the lyrics and actions to 'teddy bears, teddy bears'. Here is us singing it:

Welcome to 2017

Wow! What a fantastic couple of days we've had in Studio 2 this week. We all worked hard to create our room to be just as we wanted it! We have created our Writing publishing pockets as well as fabulous pieces of writing about what we did over our holidays! Also we begin to create our Self-portraits in Art.

We noticed that something was missing in our school. Half of it has gone! We are going to be exploring this more over the next few weeks. As well as how we can beautify our outdoor space.

Please remember to hand in your Maths and Reading Holiday Contracts, as well as your About Me homework.

Feel free to contact me at any time, or pop in for a chat.
